Be Careful out there!
It is great that we live in the world of the internet, but is also kind of scary. Nothing really is our own anymore, once we post something it becomes property of the World Wide Web. I never deeply thought about how invasive the internet social networking sites are until watching a news story last night on Fox 4 News. When we “tweet” or post on Facebook, we are letting the entire world know where we are, what we are doing and sometimes how long we will be doing it; not a problem if we are folding laundry at home, but can be an open invitation to burglars if we are outside of home and plan on being gone for hours. I have always been a trusting person, living on the belief of Karma – if you do good, good will come back to you; unfortunately, in these trying times that may not be enough. Be careful out there!

You are absolutely right. I feel the very same way. We can not be too careful in this day and time. We must practice to do as much as we can that is right and trust the Lord to help us with the rest. When we post here, it is like giving away your life story and it is so easy to get caught up and carried away while we are writing. But we must remember the environment that we are in and remember to ask God to give us the wisdom to know the difference about what we should say and what we should not say!
ReplyDeleteHello Patricia,
ReplyDeleteYes, a nice amount of prudent caution is advisable. However, the media really annoys me when they manipulate and prey on people's fears like Fox News seems to do often. Social Media networks inform people that their posts are public unless they maintain their privacy settings. This is hardly invasion. Social networking media cannot predict people who are conspiring to take advantage of other people. When I try to imagine conspiring to burglarize, I would certainly choose someone who shows more assets than myself. Thus, I do not worry so much. Burglars have had other observation methods long before social networking. I have begun lately to suspect a conspiracy to give Facebook a bad name among the public because it is such a huge factor in bringing people (activists) together.
I agree, we have to be very careful what kind of information we want floating around on the web. There are so many ways that others can get informatin from our sites. Just remember what you send out can not be taken back.
ReplyDeleteHi Ladies,
ReplyDeleteI do think there is a lot of "fear factor" people out there who tend to make mountains out of moguls, but regardless they do give us all something to think about.
Karma, as well as my three hundred pounds worth of dogs keep me feeling pretty safe though, and I've adjusted my security settings on Facebook to only allow the people I want to be able to view my page.
